Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot helps answer questions, work with uploaded documents, and prepare drafts. The Copilot chat experience and licensed features inside Microsoft 365 apps have different entitlements. Opening a free chat does not automatically give the assistant access to all of your organization’s email, files, or meetings.
Work from a supplied file
Attach a document and ask a bounded question, such as which project actions have no owner or which expenses exceed a stated threshold. Request references to the relevant sections and check them in the original. Microsoft’s file-upload documentation currently lists up to 20 files per conversation and 50 MB per file. Supported formats include common Office files, PDFs, images, and text files.
For work inside Word, Excel, or Outlook, first check the license attached to the signed-in account and the features available in that app. Review generated text and calculations before inserting them into a shared document.
Free and paid plans
Free chat has limits on advanced functions. The current US individual pricing page lists Microsoft 365 Personal at $9.99 per month and Premium at $19.99 per month, with different AI allowances. Annual prices, regional offers, and other individual tiers differ. Microsoft 365 business subscriptions and organizational Copilot licensing are separate purchasing decisions.
Check the current plan comparison for the exact app, account type, and capability you need. Older standalone Copilot Pro prices should not be treated as a description of every current Microsoft subscription.
