Roo Code is a historical product listing. Its official shutdown notice covers the VS Code extension, Roo Code Cloud, and Roo Code Router, with an end date of May 15, 2026. For an extension workflow, see Cline. For a separate terminal or desktop client with configurable model providers, see OpenCode. It is an alternative to evaluate, not a continuation of Roo Code; verify rules, permissions and billing when switching.
Workflow
Existing users can consult the archived repository to identify their installed version, configuration, and source license. Before moving to another assistant, save the project changes and record the provider settings and custom instructions you need. Test the replacement on a separate branch and review its permissions and billing. The shutdown notice recommends Cline for users seeking a model-agnostic open-source extension. That recommendation is the former project’s statement, not a comparative result from this site.
Costs and limits
The old roocode.com website now redirects to Roomote, a separate cloud coding product from the same creators. Roomote’s deployment options and subscription terms are not Roo Code extension features or a continuation of the old free plan. The archive retains Apache-2.0 source, but an available download does not imply ongoing maintenance or working hosted services.
