Perplexity for students in 2026

Perplexity's current Education Pro offer is a discounted subscription for verified students and educators. The official help page does not promise every student a free year of Pro. Treat old referral campaigns, campus deals, and partner trials as separate offers with their own dates and terms. Official Education Pro description.

What the education plan includes

Perplexity says Education Pro includes Pro capabilities and education-specific guidance. The help page lists access to premium models, Learn Mode, file and image uploads, and Pro search capabilities. Included features and usage policies can change. A plan description does not mean every action, model, or service has unlimited use.

Decide whether you need paid access by testing your actual study workflow with the available free access first. For example, check whether the service can help locate primary sources for a topic, then open those sources and verify the claims. A generated answer with citations is a starting point for research, not proof that the citations support every sentence.

Follow the official verification route

1. Sign into the Perplexity account you intend to keep. Perplexity says an account can use a personal or student email address.
2. Open the upgrade flow, select the Education option, and use the student verification route described in the help page. Complete SheerID's requirements using accurate information.
3. Wait for approval, then inspect the discounted checkout. Confirm the price, billing interval, payment method, and renewal terms before purchasing.
4. Confirm that Education Pro appears on the intended account. Keep the verification and subscription records so support can identify the issue if the benefit is missing.

The student verification guide says you can ask SheerID to add a missing institution. A request does not guarantee approval. It also says student discounts are not transferable. Moving to a different email requires verification again.

If verification or checkout fails

Approved verification does not guarantee that checkout has completed. Check the account you used, pending verification, and outstanding payment issues. The current Education Pro help page advises using the desktop web upgrade flow when an approved discount does not appear at payment.

If an older subscription is past due and checkout shows the full Pro price, the same page advises contacting support to resolve the earlier balance before subscribing at the discounted price. Do not pay an unexpected full amount merely to test whether a discount appears later.

Manage renewal and your research

Cancel through Perplexity settings for a web subscription or the relevant app store for an app subscription. Cancel before deleting an account that has a paid plan. Deleting the account is not a reliable subscription-management step. These routes are described in the Education Pro help page.

For academic work, read the original paper or document, confirm publication dates, and cite the original source according to your course's rules. Do not upload restricted research or personal records without permission. Education pricing changes access costs, not your responsibility to check sources.
