Perplexity Personal Computer

Perplexity Personal Computer brings Computer to local files and Mac apps. It is a desktop agent rather than the ordinary Perplexity search assistant. The product page requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later.

Hybrid is different from fully local

The October 20 local-mode announcement distinguishes two paths. Hybrid Compute combines cloud reasoning with local processing. Fully local mode runs the model, agent harness and task execution on a supported Apple silicon Mac; Perplexity recommends at least 36 GB of memory and lists Pro, Max and Enterprise access. This recommendation is specific to fully local execution, not a blanket requirement for every Mac app feature.

The fully local workflow can still contact online services if you authorize cloud escalation, browsing or connected apps. Do not interpret the mode label as proof that every possible task stays offline.

Start with a copied folder

Use the official setup guide to install the Mac app and Comet, allow the required macOS permissions, then connect a small test folder. For local execution, follow the app’s model download and mode-selection steps. Ask for a summary of copied notes, check the source files, and inspect any writes before widening access.

Always-on work needs an awake, connected host. Confirm the selected execution mode for each trial. Compare alternatives in our personal agent guide.

Subscription and credit boundaries

Cloud Computer uses plan allowances and credits. Paid Consumer Pro weekly included usage is rolling out and differs from promotional Pro access. Check the account’s Usage page, task consumption and auto-refill settings instead of assuming unlimited work from a subscription. Official credit rules.
